So how do you overcome procrastination and actually get started? Keep reading...

In our experience, some people get stuck in the mindset of starting from the very beginning. They work forward step by step, from receiving a referral...

That's totally normal. But what if you tried a different approach?

Start by asking yourself,

"What do we want to achieve and by when?" and then work backwards.

For example, let's look at an exercise referral scheme (or any health referral programme):
One of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) could be getting the client to book their first appointment within 7 days of hearing from the service.

Here are three important considerations to keep in mind:
  1. How should the contact attempts be spaced out and in what format (two text messages, then email or phone call, etc.) within the designated time period?
  2. How many contact attempts can be made without bothering a client if there is no response?
  3. Incorporate a branch in the workflow to account for a client's responses, such as if they make contact but are unable to book due to being away for a week.

It's a difficult line to play, while not being too efficient to give clients any flexibility and achieving service KPI's can be a challenging balance to strike.

Starting with "What do we want to achieve and by when?" and working backwards from each KPI increases the chances of achieving your service goals.
